Westminster: Former Council Member Running for OC Democratic Party Chair

Former Westminster Council Member Diana Carey officially threw her hat in the ring for the Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) chairmanship. She sent out an email around the Christmas holiday to make public her intention of leading the DPOC. The DPOC current chairman Henry Vandermeir is expected to retire.

Most recently Diana Carey was a council member from Westminster between the period of 2012 – 2016. She was overwhelmingly defeated for re-election by Republican Dr. Kimberly Ho. According to the Registrar of Voters, Carey only won 1 out of the 33 precincts in Westminster. She came in a distant second in her home precinct after Council Member Sergio Contreras.

Diana Carey made a name for herself by opposing the proposed toll lanes on the I-405 freeway. After she captured a seat on the City Council in 2012, Carey signed up with the Alan Lowenthal / Lou Correa crowd and became their “Democrat” in Westminster.
