Irvine Councilman Jeff Lalloway is leaving his position as chief of staff to 3rd District Supervisor Todd Spitzer to return to his attorney practice. Lalloway joined Spitzer’s staff in late September coming on board as an independent contractor.
OC Daily contacted Councilman Lalloway, who said he and Spitzer part of very good terms. He had this to say about his decision:
“At the end of the day, the practice of law is my first love and I missed it. I’m honored by the opportunity to serve the citizens of the 3rd District and work with Todd, but at the end of the day I prefer the private sector to working in full-time in government. I wish Todd good luck in his future endeavors.”
Lalloway was elected to the Irvine City Council in 2010 in the first successful effort to dislodge Democrat Larry Agran’s long-time grip on control of the Irvine City Council. He was re-elected in 2014 and is termed out in 2018.
It’s unclear who will step into the chief of staff role for Supervisor Spitzer; his staff has undergone an unprecedented degree of turnover since he returned to the Board of Supervisors in 2011, with few lasting more than a year and a number quitting after a few months or weeks. Spitzer is widely expected to challenge District Attorney Tony Rackauckas for re-election in 2018.
UPDATE: According to informed sources, Communications Director Melanie Eustice will take over as chief of staff.
