Garden Grove: Mayor Pro Tem Will Not Visit China

Bowing to internal pressure from the very group of anti-communist activists that he is representing, Garden Grove Mayor Pro Tem Phat Bui yesterday declined the opportunity to tour Shanghai, China on an all expenses-paid city trip.

He made his decision known to the public via an interview with the Vietnamese-language newspaper Nguoi Viet Daily News.

Bui was key in the 3-2 vote in sending an official delegation to China under the guise of business development.

After weeks of being heavily criticized by the very people that supported the Mayor Pro Tem’s infant political career, Bui reached a compromised with his supporters by declaring that he is staying away from China.

Originally, these activists implored Bui to re-agendized the item to change his vote from “yes” to “no” in approving $13,000 for the China trip. Phat Bui resisted this request.
