Garden Grove: Likely Bao Nguyen 2nd Place Finish Sets Potential Steve Jones, Phat Bui Mayoral Battle

Garden Grove Mayor Bao Nguyen has moved into second place in the 46th Congressional District race. If he stays there – which seems likely – he will face front runner and fellow Democrat Lou Correa in November.

That also means an open race for Garden Grove’s directly-elected mayor’s seat.

According to sources, Councilman Steve Jones is poised to announce his candidacy for mayor soon. Jones, a Republican and a member of the OCTA Board of Directors, is termed off the city council this year.

Garden Grove Councilman Phat Bui has also been telling people he will run for mayor, leading observers to wonder a) does Bui have any money left after spending $230,000 of his own money running for 1st District Supervisor and b) if he does still have money, how much will he spend on this race?
